Christmas Eve

The tree is up and the shopping is done (I think.) Joy, Sach and Uma have been here since Thursday and we've been enjoying it to no end. Chris arrived this morning from Columbus and it's great to see him. Dan and Nancy are on the road and headed our way. Soon the house will be full and tonight is our Christmas Eve Open House. Neighbors will be stopping by and eating and drinking. Then Santa will visit and leave way too many gifts under the tree.

There are actually a few there now.

The stockings are all in place. Baby Uma has a brand new one with a snowman, snow flakes and even the Golden Gate Bridge on it. I'll post a close up later.

Merry Christmas!

Uma, Baby Uma

For Christmas, mostly I would like Uma to come and visit.

It would be great if her Mommy and Daddy could come too, along with Uncle Chris and great Uncle Dan and Nancy as well.

We could all sit around and play games and eat and drink. That's it. Top of my list.

Merry Christmas!

Birthday Dinner - Wishes Come True

Just to show you that indeed, "Wishes do come true!" I've decided to post a couple of photos from last night's Birthday Celebration.

Starting last Friday, a delivery arrived at our house.

WOW! Steaks from Allen Brothers. Looking forward to this.

Fast forward to yesterday. Steaks are sitting out, warming up and ready for seasoning. A bone-in ribeye and filet.

Next we cook them. Finished steaks below, "resting".

Here's a toast to Good Health, Good Eating and Good Wine. A 2003 J Boookwalter merlot.

After dinner, Birthday Cake! Or, Birthday Cakes as the case may be.

Gift opening. A Tilley hat from Joy, Sach and Uma. Thanks guys!

All and all, a great birthday with several "Wishes" coming true.

What's For Dinner

For someone who likes to grill a lot, a Laser Thermometer...

The high-tech answer to "is it hot enough yet?" This infrared thermometer registers the surface temperature of grills, waffle irons, griddles, and pizza stones in half a second, taking the guesswork out of predicting the right time to set down the food for successful cooking. Aim the thermometer at the surface, press the button, and the temperature registers in the LCD display. Registers -67 F to +428 F or -55 C to +220 C. Includes scan and hold indications and laser-on icon. Battery included.

Once dinner is on the grill, you need a good pair of Tongs to get it off...

Spring-loaded tongs for a secure grip. Flat head specifically designed for use on grills. Locking mechanism. Made in USA.

Automated External Defibrillator

Not really expecting this... at least soon. I think it would be an increadible life saving device to have on hand, however. AED.com

(I'm just coping Sach on this, of course.)

OXO Ice Bucket

This one is the one! Available at Bed Bath & Beyond.

.

Hanging Toiletry Kit

Something to keep all my bathroom stuff in. Big enough to hold most everything yet small enough to fit in the suitcase. Maybe like this... available here... on sale! Or this...

Glasses

If you are going to drink single malt scotch, this is the glass.

Otherwise, scotch on the rocks glasses would be good. Like this...

Also, breakage has taken a tool on our Brandy, snifter type glasses. Not big. Medium size is OK. After all, we often take these out to the campfire to enjoy!

Leather Shop Apron

You like to keep your clothes clean when you work in the shop. Rockler has a nice one here.

This is also a nice cloth one, here.

GPS

I'm good with maps, but with photographing brides all over town, this would be helpful.

Burgers and Dogs

I've heard that these are the BEST! ABSOLUTE BEST!

Dogs would be great for a family feast.

Allen Brothers

Nut Driver Set

It's always important to have a good nut driver set...

Here, I'll show you...

From Sears.

A Hat

More and more, I've taken to wearing a hat outside when I'm working around the house. (On advise of my dermatologist.) This one would work. An Army Navy store should have them.

I found this one here.

Flashlight

It's windy and cold outside, I might need a flashlight. Really. It is very windy. Yes, I have several flashlights already, but this one is cool. Take a look.

It's a G2™ Nitrolon®

Becky Cole CD

Not a Dixie Chick, but definitely a Poster Girl!!

I read recently about Beccy Cole, an Australian singer who has run into some flack for her "USO" type support of the Australian troops (aka as "Diggers") and International Allied Forces in Iraq. This has now topped the Country Music Radio Charts in Australia.

Her song, Poster Girl, is in response to some of her fans who disagree with her supporting the Australian soldiers fighting in The Long War. I like the song. You can watch her music video below.
Turn it up.

Next to the British, the Australians our our best ally.

Scotch - A Gentlemen's Drink

All of them are good. The Famous Grouse is the drink of choice for several characters in W.E.B. Griffin's best selling "The Corps" novel series and it's the best selling brand in Scotland.

That's what lead me to try it over Thanksgiving.
